Best Science Fiction Websites
Bestowing the title of best science fiction website is very subjective. Does this mean a site that covers the entire genre or one that specializes, such as the website of a science fiction author? For the purpose of this article, let us assume the website being assessed is a general site that tries to present information covering many aspects of science fiction. There will probably not be universal agreement but if you were to consider it a popularity contest just using Google page rank higher than five, then a few websites standout. In no particular order: http://www.sfsite.com The SF Site: The Best in Science Fiction and Fantasy, bills itself as 'The Home Page for Science Fiction and Fantasy.' It has the typical mix of book reviews, author interviews, execrpts, and other content. "SF Site is a webzine edited by Rodger Turner. Established in 1996 by John O'Neill, it is based in Canada, but includes contributors from around the world. It publishes reviews of science fiction books, films, and television, and features interviews with authors and fiction excerpts. It is also the web hosting for notable science fiction and fantasy authors.In 2002, it won the Locus Award for best science fiction webzine. http://www.scifi.com Scifi.com is not just the website for the Scifi network cable channel, it also has "plenty of information on Sci-Fi movies, TV shows, and other related topics, and you can shop for stuff and seek the latest news through the Sci-Fi Wire." http://www.bsfa.co.uk/ the British Science Fiction Association To celebrate 50 years of the BSFA's promotion of British science fiction http://www.technovelgy.com/ Technovelgy bills itself as "a site where science meets fiction." It posts about technology first mentioned in fiction that have become reality. Citing "excerpts from books from as far back as 1638 when author Francis Godwin wrote about weightlessness, or the Multicket, which was dreamed up by Isaac Asimov in 1951." http://www.sfwa.org/ Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, Inc. SFWA presents the Nebula Awards. Damon Knight (1922–2002) founded SFWA in 1965. Today, SFWA's 1500 members include most professional writers of science fiction and fantasy in North America.
